Inflation has officially come for childhood joy. One Belizean woman had just unwrapped what was supposed to be a full, glorious choco-banana. Now, imagine her surprise when she finds a sad little chocolate-dipped banana nugget staring back at her instead. We’re talking blink-and-you ’ll-miss-it, no-bigger-than-your-thumb energy… for the same price that you once bought the whole frozen masterpiece. Now her Facebook audience is torn between making jokes or calling it a rip-off.
When virality hits a Belizean’s post, you can only expect something out of pocket. This is exactly what Devyne Lopez’s picture on Facebook did. Currently, it has almost 500 likes. Not only did aspiring comedians flock to her comments section, but now everyone is comparing prices like it’s a market.
In her caption, Devyne says, “Things cya be this bad with this economy cause wym you cut a banana into 4 and sell each piece fi shilling? I d get crazy or? Only Ina Belize bro ong.” The picture attached then shows said choco-banana, in its tiny glory. Devyne compares it to her thumb and dare we say it–the thumb is bigger than the small piece of chocobanana. By its size, it’s safe to assume the banana was truly cut in four and sold separately.
In an even funnier turn of events, Devyne then posts another picture in the comments section as a follow-up. In the comment, she says, “Even the stick they cut ina half,” showing the half-eaten chocobanana. The last picture shows that chocobanana is gone, but the stick cut in half is clearly seen. Devyne says, “Unu think I d lie?”
As previously mentioned, the comments are filled with jokes. One user says, “Everything reminds me of him.”
“Some would say thats a very average size choco banana, might even be considered big….” another joked.
One viewer adds, “Member wen dem teacher tell u think out a the box, dat a it right deh…its call a hustle…”
Other viewers start comparing prices. “My baby paid $1.50 for the half at school so I’d take 4 of those minis,” says one viewer.
One boasts, “Tell me dah weh so I no send no Body… lmfao I pay .50 for an entire chocobanana and thick chocolate yet here in benque.”
