A Belize boat captain is going viral after a TikTok video shows him steering a moving boat with nothing but his big toe. The unexpected moment, posted by Passport Poppin-Travel Agency (@passportpoppin), has already racked up 97,000 views as of Friday.

The video, first posted on Dec. 12, 2025, captures a cloudy sky over Belize as they sail through the waters of the Caribbean Sea. However, the real focus isn’t the ocean views, but the captain’s unconventional driving technique.

In the clip, the captain appears relaxed while guiding the vessel using only his big toe. The on-screen text reads, “POV: your mama is home praying you’re safe and you’re in Belize with a captain driving the boat with his big toe.”

While the TikToker’s mother may be worried about her safety, the captain is maneuvering not with panic or chaos, but what some will argue is sheer skill.

What did viewers think?

The comments section was in stitches, with many finding the man’s unorthodox method amusing. However, others were concerned about the tourists’ safety.

One user wrote, “Have you heard Belize is not a real place. Welcome to our hometown haha.” Another added, “Only in Belize and PM seh we have limited talent…..lies.” While some were concerned, with one saying, “He’s not wearing the safety shut off around his wrist. Yikes!”

A fourth user pointed out: “That’s why accidents happen and deh go pan di mangroves.”

However, one user came to quell any fears: the alleged daughter of the boat captain commented, “That’s my father!” When prompted, she shared a selfie of her with the man in question, writing, “Don’t need the face to know that’s my dad. I could point out that big toe and that outfit in any crowd.” She added, “That toe been working overtime whole life.” Deep Scroll reached out to the daughter via TikTok message.

The viral clip symbolizes a vacation logic: things that would most definitely not fly back home seem just fine in a paradise like Belize. As for those who were concerned, the TikToker added in the caption, “But we lived to tell another travel story!”

Update Feb. 27, 2026:

In a TikTok message to Deep Scroll, the creator revealed that they “loved, loved, loved Belize” and called it an amazing country.

“I left 30 pounds heavier because the food was so good so that along with the thrill of entrusting my life in a big toe was well worth it,” they said. “We host group trips to many countries around the world, so we can’t wait to return and bring more travelers!”

Update Mar. 1, 2026:

In a TikTok direct message to Deep Scroll, Kristin shared more about her dad, who was the boat captain in the TikToker’s video.

Mr. Eddie Ancona was born and raised in San Pedro, she says, “so the sea is literally in his blood.” According to Kristin, he’s been a boat captain for years, “so being on the water is second nature to him.”

As for his viral steering maneuver, Kristin says, it “honestly didn’t shock us because we joke around a lot as a family and he’s very confident in what he does. But I do want to make it clear that he’s very experienced and always puts safety first. He knows exactly what he’s doing out there.”

She says his outfit in his video is his uniform, as he’s had that “same style forever,” which was how she knew that it was without a doubt her father who had gone viral.

“Apart from being a boat captain, he’s capable of so much more. He’s also a dive master. He once had his own woodworking shop called San Pedro Wood Works,” she continues. “He also managed Coastal Express, which was a water taxi service that made multiple stops around San Pedro. He also volunteers for RRR, the emergency response team in San Pedro that responds on both land and sea. He’s always been very involved and hands-on in the community.”
