When the heat gets bad enough, even a harmless “hey” can feel like a personal attack. One Belizean woman appears to have reached exactly that point. She took to TikTok, sweaty, overwhelmed, and in tears, to deliver a simple message: please leave her alone. In the viral clip, she explains that the scorching weather has her overstimulated and extremely frustrated. She doesn’t want to deal with questions, phone calls, or even a three-letter text. A random “hey” was apparently enough to push her over the edge. Now viewers are debating whether she had a dramatic, heat-induced meltdown or whether Belize’s rising temperatures are genuinely testing everyone’s last nerve.
Kai’s (@mountkaiii) heat-fueled breakdown has gained over 58,000 views. Her 63-second clip begins with the text overlay reading: “nuh ask me schupidness eena this heat.” Kai is clearly upset, her face and upper body sweaty and her eyes filled with tears. She says that she doesn’t want anyone to text her asking “silly” or “stupid” questions in the heat. Or worse, don’t ask her the same question multiple times or ask her to repeat herself. “When the heat is on, when it’s hot, I get so overstimulated, so upset, so frustrated,” she stresses, “and I’m not someone that’s short-tempered.”
Kai then shares what interaction seems to have triggered this heat-fueled crash-out. Apparently, she had gone to the gym that morning. On the way back home, she’s walking in 95-degree heat at noon, the hottest time of the day. Then, a random person texts her on WhatsApp, saying only one word: hey. Kai is bewildered at how this person got her number and why they would even text her. She doesn’t know a “Zay” and asserts that it’s way too hot to be dealing with these things. “Why are you telling me ‘hey’?” she cries. “Just stop. Just left me lone.” Her caption simply says: “nothing is funny when it’s hot.”
Belize’s year is divided into two seasons: dry and rainy. Typically, the rainy season is from June to November. In the past, Belize experienced numerous hurricanes and tropical waves during the summer months, with an average high temperature of 81 degrees along the coast. However, climate change has impacted Belize’s usual schedule. Now, it’s experiencing hotter weather than before.
On September 3rd, the National Meteorological Service of Belize reported that the country is experiencing a “drier-than-normal” rainy season. Because of this, the heat has also risen considerably and affects multiple facets of daily life. The National Met Service claims that heat exhaustion and dehydration are to be expected. Even more, the demand for electricity rises, since residents are constantly using air conditioning units to combat the heat. Overall, the temperatures have now been seen to jump to the high 90’s, supporting Kai’s overwhelming heat-fueled breakdown.
Many of Kai’s viewers took her side. The most-liked comment says, “The audacity to text you “Hey” while you were going through a lot… I’d be pissed.” Kai replies, “That was my last straw tbh.”
Another viewer shares a heavier burden: “girl being pregnant with this heat ya different I d sit down fronta fan and still soaked with sweat,” she says.
A third viewer simply states, “Gyal preach cause idk weh go on with this heat,” while another shares, “valid crash out.”
On the other hand, many viewers mock Kai’s feelings. One viewer says, “you the cryyy offa the heat.” Another claims, “Gyal u Nuh carrect.”
Finally, when a viewer tells Kai, “Gial get some AC,” she replies with: “I have AC but not when I’m walking on the steet.”
