A waterside dinner sounds romantic until your waiter casually points out that the “something” brushing past your feet has teeth. One tourist dining at Blue Bayou in San Pedro got an unexpected side of wildlife with her meal. She says her waiter warned her about something lurking beneath the table. When she looked down, she found a large barracuda sitting practically at her feet. Her stunned reaction says it all. Now TikTok viewers are joking that the barracuda had its own dinner reservation.
Kate (@kbaby814) was just like any other tourist visiting San Pedro. She wanted to experience the famous in-water tables that Blue Bayou offered to its guests. What she got alongside the clear-blue waters earned her more than 85,000 TikTok views. In her clip, Kate first shows the restaurant’s scenic view, with many of its in-water picnic tables occupied. Then she pans the camera down to below her table.
What enters the view is an alarmingly big barracuda simply chilling underneath her. Not swimming, not hunting, just stagnant. Its size seems to be between three and four feet long. When a viewer points out that shiny objects usually catch a barracuda’s attention, Kate replies, “One of the workers pointed it out for us! Although I did have a little anklet on it was probably thinking about snatching me up.”
This isn’t the first time a tourist has encountered wildlife at Blue Bayou. Just a few months ago, another woman was stung by a jellyfish at the very same restaurant.
According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, barracudas can grow up to five feet and over 100 pounds. Even more shocking, they can reach speeds of 35 mph when hunting their prey. As one of Kate’s viewers commented, barracudas can be dangerous to humans if they spot a shiny object and attack. They easily mistake it for the glint of fish prey. Therefore, if one wears jewelry while swimming or snorkeling, it might be dangerous. However, attacks are still rare.
Some viewers take to the comment section and share their own experiences from SanPedro. One viewer says, “Better than the bull shark that followed me on my inflatable paddle board out there.”
Another claims, “We were JUST THERE!! My daughter babysits for a boy who was snorkeling in Aruba. He had an anklet on and was getting out of the water back onto the boat, and a barracuda got a hold of his leg… And it was NOT pretty!”
Most of the other comments are light-hearted. The most-liked comment states, “I mean, that’s his home. You’re visiting.”
Another viewer jokes, “Get that MF. He ate Nemo mom.”
Lastly, one viewer shares, “what i woulda grabbed that for ceviche misses chance right there.”
