She was just minding her business at a Kroger gas station, filling up her Kia Telluride like any other day. That is, until a random man at the next pump decided her tank wasn’t the only one that needed funding. What started as a harmless comment took a wild turn when he casually asked if she wanted to pay for his gas, too. Now the Belizean TikToker based in Dallas, Texas, has the internet collectively blinking in disbelief at the man’s sheer audacity. Because, since when did pumping gas turn into a sponsorship opportunity?
Adriana (@adriana.aloma) thought she was just doing something off her to-do list. At least, when you’re doing a routine trip to the gas station, you don’t really have to talk to anyone. Filling up gas in Belize and in the U.S. are two different experiences. In the former, there’s an employee to fill the gas for you, and they usually clean your windshield while the pump is in use. In the U.S., however, it’s a self-service stop. Meaning, drivers have to get out of the car and do it themselves. Adriana is grieving Belize’s convenience with her latest encounter. Her story has garnered over 8,000 views in just a couple of days.
Adriana says the story begins when she pulls up behind a man at a Kroger gas station. When she gets out of the car, he tells her, “Man, shorty, you have a nice car.”
Adriana says she just smiles, noting that she doesn’t have anything fancy like a BMW or Mercedes-Benz. As she’s swiping her card and starts to pump the gas, the man then says, “You wanna pay for my gas?”
Astounded by the question, Adriana tells viewers, “I neen want pay fi my own gas, why would I pay for your gas?”
She explains that she gave the man a look, and he backtracked and said he was “kidding,” but if she wanted to, she could. Adriana refuses and tells him that she has her “man’s card” to pay for her gas. She then gets back in her car and waits for him to leave first. As she retells the story, Adriana comments on the audacity and claims she wants to go back home to Belize. Her parting comment: “What the [expletive] is happening?”
One viewer says, “Ohhh……..A MESS.” While another claims, “Second hand embarrassment grown man asking for u to pay for HISSS gas.”
“Tell he you da Belizean Not American lol,” says one viewer. A second states, “The Belize cussing mi wa come out eno.” Adriana replies, “I promise i cuss up Ina my head. Just Neva want get too wild cause people yah crazy lol.”
One viewer simply states, “Eeeeeeeyuckkkkkkkkkkkk” and Adriana responds, “THE AUDACITY.”
